PROJECTS
All of this work is projects which I have done either in a personal or professional capacity
14TH NOVEMBER 1940
This project explores the victims who died on 14th November 1940 during the Moonlight Sonata raid on Coventry. It tells the story of those who lost their lives from people in the emergency services to civilians in air raid shelters. The project explores their family history, job and includes photographs.
THREE SPIRE CITY STORIES
Three Spire City Stories is a project about the city of Coventry’s community through the perspective of its inhabitants. It explored personal tales of those from different age groups, ethnicities, and race with the singular notion of all having lived within the city’s boundaries during their lifetime, encapsulated across mixed medias.
THE MORROW ARCHIVE: CHARLES NEVIL MORROW
This project delves into ancestry and the relationship between those who are alive today and people who are no longer here. Upon not knowing relatives past my parents, I created a family archive based on copies of documents and information through interviews and family heirlooms. Focusing on my mother’s line, which was an unusual approach, was decided when there was access to more information and a mystery surrounding my mother’s father’s period in the military. This volume explores my grandfather, Charles Nevil Morrow (a soldier during WW2). This ongoing project hopes to bring a sense of closeness to families, an openness to stories from older generations which would otherwise be lost.
THE MORROW ARCHIVE: ROLAND EDWARD STAPLES
This project delves into ancestry and the relationship between those who are alive today and people who are no longer here. Upon not knowing relatives past my parents, I created a family archive based on copies of documents and information through interviews and family heirlooms. Focusing on my mother’s line, which was an unusual approach, was decided when there was access to more information and a mystery surrounding my mother’s father’s period in the military. This volume explores my great grandfather, Roland Edward Staples (a community man). This ongoing project hopes to bring a sense of closeness to families, an openness to stories from older generations which would otherwise be lost.
THE MORROW ARCHIVE: GEORGE HENRY MARTIN
This project delves into ancestry and the relationship between those who are alive today and people who are no longer here. Upon not knowing relatives past my parents, I created a family archive based on copies of documents and information through interviews and family heirlooms. Focusing on my mother’s line, which was an unusual approach, was decided when there was access to more information and a mystery surrounding my mother’s father’s period in the military. This volume explores my great great grandfather, George Henry Martin (an Olympic swimming coach). This ongoing project hopes to bring a sense of closeness to families, an openness to stories from older generations which would otherwise be lost.
AILURUS PANTHERA TIGRIS
A box was found in the attic of Jacob Greth, containing the “Ailurus Panthera Tigris” lost archive. Inside were these documents (including pictures and first-hand accounts) thought to have been produced by Dr William Burrow and his team when researching the red tiger species. Background checks on Dr William Burrow, suggests he is a commendable researcher who has helped to develop the zoological archives during the 1950s, the same decade as which he would have been working on this investigation however it is important to note, no other evidence has since been uncovered on this subject matter.
BEHIND CLOSED DOORS
‘Behind Closed Doors’ highlights domestic abuse cases, in particular male victims, through mixed media with the intention of educating viewers. It isn’t until in depth research, that you discover how men are treated differently to women in response to domestic abuse claims. I used art to protest societal indifferences, increasingly becoming activistic media opening people’s eyes to specific problems
THE BIG EIGHT
‘The Big Eight’ is a project exploring the scope of society through social identifiers and with the help of each person, they come together to form a visual display of categorisation. These distinctions: religion, age, gender, sexuality, nationality, ability, ethnicity, and socioeconomic status mean that we can associate ourselves in a certain way as well as giving ourselves a clarity on what we are not. Through each classification, the focus is on the minority, such as Islam, deafness, and homosexuality.
